Fly, Drive, Boat- Get Away For Memorial Day
Memorial Weekend marks the end of a school year, the start of great summer weather, and the perfect occasion for Northwestern-er's to get away from it all. Ask around, and you will most likely find "migratory Memorial Day" plans - meaning, folks tend to return, year after year, to the same Northwest vacation destinations. Great vacation spots are coveted and usually booked months, if not a year(s) in advance (many book upon check-out the year before!).
Thankfully, the Northwest offers something for everyone this weekend. Prefer boating? Motor up to the San Juans and check out Lopez Island (see below).
Wishing for wine country? Head over the mountains and take your pick - Chelan, Walla Walla, Leavenworth, and of course Yakima Valley. Love music? The Gorge amphitheater hosts the annual Sasquatch festival (not for the faint of heart...). Prefer the beach? Then head to the coast. I think I've made my point well - there is no shortage on areas that attract BIG numbers this weekend.
In case you have yet to make plans, here are a few links to help you get on your way.
A great resource for large groups who prefer more personal accommodations is VRBO.com. The site has hundreds of NW listings, which you can search by region (I have successfully booked beautiful properties using this site and recommend it).
Want to leave some of the work to the pros? There are still a number of rooms available across the state and into Idaho (the Tamarack Resort is gorgeous, has a fine golf course, and many other resort amenities).
