A Slice of Americana....Roche Harbor on the Fourth of July!
Roche Harbor is one of our favorite places to enjoy the beauty of the San Juan Islands; crystal clear salt water, deep green lush forests, and island fresh air. Just a scenic ferry ride or a short flight from the Northwest Washington mainland, lies a paradise for the adventurous in spirit, whether you yearn for the slow pace of island time, or the excitement of new experiences.
Roche Harbor is a boater's paradise, hosting boats and yachts of all sizes. We love spending time in Roche Harbor during the summer when the weather is at its peak, and there is nothing better than the Fourth of July at Roche! It is an amazing place for families and friends to share in good old fashion Holiday fun!
Who says Fireworks are the only excitement on the Fourth of July? Not the folks at Roche Harbor! For years, tradition has yielded a weekend full of festivites to delight all ages. From a Fun Run, to a Washingotn Wine tasting and everything in between including a Log rolling contest, Blind dingy rowing contest, donut eating contest and the nightly salute to the Flag during the Colors ceremony. Can you say Red, White, & Blue? It was everywhere......boats, clothing, painted faces, beads, you get the picture!
We started a WA wine tasting 4 years ago on the 3rd of July on the floating dock in the Marina. Due to popularity, Roche Harbor made it an official event and part of their annual festivities. Six wineries were involved including DeLille Cellars, O Wines, Lachini Family vineyards, Carliss & Tranche Wineries, Hedges Family winery, and BaronsIV. This event was a huge success with 420 attendees and food provided by McMillian's restaurant. It is such a hoot to spend the weekend with many of our friends who like us either have a home at Roche or bring their boat for the weekend often heading to Desolation Sound following the weekend. Of course, Fourth of July would not be complete without a firework show and the robust 8 minute show over the Bay was a perfect way to cap off the weekend.
