SPOTLIGHTED: Pilchuck Glass School
Happy 40th Birthday to Pilchuck Glass School! Last weekend, past and present trustees gathered (myself included), to celebrate at Dale Chihuly's Boathouse. The reason for celebration? 40 years ago, Pilchuck Glass School started with some brilliant minds huddled under a few tents. Today, tucked in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, Pilchuck is a tranquil retreat for artisits to emerse themselves into the art of glass.
Artists, patrons, glass art lovers and the like, led by Dale Chihuly, have worked hard since then to make Pichuck one of the most recognized glass art schools in the world.I am honoroed to be on the Board of Trustees of the school, and imagine I will be there for many moons to come. My husband, J.P. Canlis, attended Pilchuck while in college, and we have had a strong relationship to the school ever since.
The celebration continued the following day up on campus, where close to 250 people gathered to eat, drink, and listen to the glass masters recount the very first days of what was to become the famous school of glass. Many of the most legendary glass artists of our time were in attendance, and it was a pure pleasure to be a part of the celebration. To 40+ more years of glass education at its highest caliber!
