Harborview Salute Gala 2012 February 25th!
Every year the Sheraton Seattle undergoes a glamorous transformation for a meaningful event: The UW Medicine Salute Harborview Gala with over 800 civic, healthcare and business leaders. This year marks the 20th and final anniversary of the celebration. Harborview is a giant in charity care and the UW Medicine physicians and staff here has provided $189 million of it in fiscal year 2011. The UW Medicine personnel consists of nationally and internationally renowned clinicians, researchers, and educators who push medicine to the next level who dedicate themselves to improving the health of all people.

Thanks to the Western Washington Toyota Dealers Association as well as other key participants including former community chairs and many corporate and individual donors, this event has raised money for UW Medicine’s mission of caring since 1993. All proceeds from the evening benefit Harborview’s mission of caring: UW Medicine’s commitment to providing world-class care to all patients regardless of their ability to pay. All gifts made during the “Raise Your Hand” portion of the 2012 event, up to $500,000, will be matched by the community chairs.
Entertainment will include performances by World-renowned artists The Canadian Tenors (watch a performance here) and the nationally acclaimed University of Washington Studio Jazz Ensemble directed by Fred Radke.
The hosts, who are advocates that share a deep interest in providing world-class care to people from all walks of life, include:
Jeffrey and Susan Brotman—Mr. Brotman, the founder and chairman of the board at Costco Wholesale, is a University of Washington and a member of UW Medicine’s Strategic Initiatives Committee. Ms. Brotman is the vice president of Seattle Art Museum’s board of trustees, a trustee of Pacific Northwest Ballet and a member of the UW Foundation Board.
Steve and Connie Ballmer—Mr. Ballmer is the CEO of Microsoft Corp. Ms. Ballmer is the co-founder of Partners for Our Children and serves on community boards. Both share a strong interest in the well-being of UW Medicine and the University of Washington.
Bill and Mimi Gates—Mr. Gates is a co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a regent at the University of Washington. Ms. Gates is director emeritus of the Seattle Art Museum and former president and trustee of the Association of Art Museum Directors.
Erik and Julie Nordstrom—Mr. Nordstrom is executive vice president and president of stores, Nordstrom, Inc. Ms. Nordstrom is a member of the UW Medicine Board.
