Lights, Cameras, Oscars!
You don’t have to walk down the red carpet in Hollywood to experience the magic and excitement the Oscar Night® provides! Right here in Seattle, you have the opportunity to join the Starlight Children’s Foundation Northwest at The Fairmont Olympic Hotel for the only Academy-sanctioned Oscar® Gala in Washington. The event will be held on the same night as the Oscars: Sunday, February 26. Seattle will be one of 49 cities participating in Oscar Night® America, an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ grassroots program that enables charities to host glamorous fundraising parties.
Starlight will be hosting the official viewing party for the 84th Academy Awards® ceremony where many guests integrate Hollywood-style party elements including red carpet arrivals, local celebrities, “paparazzi” photographers, predict-the-winner contests, and live entertainment. “Oscar night is an event meant to be shared with others. This network of fundraising parties across the nation is a natural extension of that experience, and also represents the year-round philanthropic work the Academy does,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “This February we are thrilled to be able to celebrate the movies with fans nationwide while supporting charities around the country.”
Unlike the thousands of other Oscar events taking place, each ONA party receives copies of the official commemorative poster and the official Oscar show program among other items. Only one charity party is allowed to participate in ONA in a given market and the events are produced by local nonprofit organizations along with the active participation of the local ABC-TV affiliate station. Since its inception in 1994, the program has been able to generate nearly $33.5 million in funding for a wide spectrum of charitable organizations with every cent staying within the community where it was raised. Last year, 51 charities hosted the viewing parties for the 83rd Academy Awards and were fortunate enough to raise over $3.5 with 17,332 guests who attended nationwide. Other charities that were able to benefit along with Starlight included the American Red Cross, Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics, the Ellie Fund, and the United Way.
