Connie Blumenthal Attends the Real Deal's US Real Estate Showcase in Shanghai
Last month, I attended The Real Deal’s U.S. Real Estate Showcase in Shanghai. The first US-only industry event ever held in China, the property showcase featured networking opportunities, dynamic panels and workshops, all to provide Chinese investors with the necessary resources to move forward with a real estate purchase in the U.S. About 6,000 real estate investors and professionals attended the conference, which focused on various U.S. markets including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Seattle.
As The Real Deal reported prior to the conference, “Chinese investors spent an incredible $22 billion on U.S. real estate in 2014, 72 percent more than they spent just one year earlier. And, 63 million Chinese have sufficient wealth to invest in international property. Consequently, Chinese buyers represent a tremendous new market for property sellers in the U.S.”
I saw great value in attending the property showcase, given my high volume of overseas clientele as of late. Half of my business over the summer was generated by clients from China who purchased property in the Seattle area. While I was there for the conference, I also enjoyed connecting with clients and brokers from other Sotheby’s Affiliates including Kevin Brown and Nikki Field from the Sotheby’s International Realty's East Side Manhattan Brokerage in New York and David Lane of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty in Miami.
At a separate event sponsored by VISAS, an immigration company, Kevin Brown and myself both spoke to an audience of about 60, describing the opportunities available for immigration to the U.S. I touched specifically on the beautiful Seattle area and all of the opportunities it offers overseas buyers and investors.
I was also fortunate enough to visit Beijing while in China, stopping in at the Beijing Sotheby’s International Realty offices, meeting with the Luxury Property Group and also connecting with some of my clients. All in all, it was a very successful trip and I’m looking forward to returning a few times a year!
